I began in business quite young. I can remember dreaming of cutting and delivering firewood as a business enterprise around the age of 12. Probably stemming from the many falls my father and I spent together cutting, splitting, hauling, stacking, and burning the many cords of firewood it took to heat our home each year. I learned a lot from this process most of which was a good hard work ethic.  At the age of 14 a neighbor of ours was clearing some pasture. I offered to do it for him in return for the ability to sell the firewood. He agreed.

I spent most of the summer and fall toiling to make just a few loads. I learned early that nothing came without hard work, and a lot of help from family, and friends. At that age I didn't stand a chance of making it, but with borrowed equipment and a dream I was determined. It was the first of many summers I spent working on firewood to sell to local customers. Over the years I acquired all my own equipment. Working through high school it came time to make a decision. I was always interested in business, obviously. I decided to attend Westminster College majoring in accounting. Continuing the firewood business.
